Good evening Kasey and John. One of the first things I remember about real estate school is seek competent advice.

"You don't know what you don't know" and "Jack of all trades, master of none" are phrases for a reason Sheila Anderson! :-) That was good advice you got in your real estate school.

If you haven't checked it out folks, do it now. Kasey's rates are more than reasonable - especially when you consider how those errors might affect a prospect's image of you.

John Pusa not only do I firmly believe that we need to work with those who specialize in a given work, but as a self-employed independent contractor and owner of several businesses I also want to support others in their businesses as well. In doing so we are all better. -Kasey

I almost didn't, Kasey. The first time I glanced at the picture, my mind saw what it expected to see. It wasn't until you said "What's wrong?" that I took a closer look.

I think seeing what we expect to see is the reason why it's so hard for us to proofread our own work. We "know" what we wrote. As a consequence, our minds play tricks.

We also "know" what it says so don't notice that it might not make sense to someone else reading it.

I think you are exactly right Marte Cliff. And by the way, and I know you know this, even editors/proofreaders need editors/proofreaders. I was just reading an article by some highly respected people in the copyediting world, and the title of the article had a typo in it. It's not a judgment, it's an acknowledgment that nobody is perfect and everybody could use a second (or third) eye.

This is a photo I took at a place where I bring my kids to walk around and explore. :-) Kasey

What a great and creative post, Kasey! I'm a big believer in "farming" out work that is not one of my strengths.

I find it humorous when I see professional print with mispellings or the wrong word is used, haha.  If one isn't wise enough to do something properly themselves, they would be far better to enlist a professional for help.

Endre Barath, Jr. thanks! Even in the real estate industry, there are different specialties, and I am enjoying staying in the real estate industry but transitioning more into editing and proofreading. It's actually what I've done as a broker for the last decade and a half review contracts and files so it's nothing new for me. I hope you are having a great weekend! -Kasey

Kasey - I read a lot of books, and have found some really funny typos and errors. The other day the person they were referencing switched genders in the middle of a sentence! In another book, they slipped up and spelled "Sondra" as "Sandra" a couple of times.

These are books by major publishers - the kind who have plenty of editors and proofreaders.

Marte Cliff, you'd be amazed at how often authors can't decide on one spelling of a name. I find misspelled or differently spelled names ALL THE TIME. I proofread a novel earlier this summer and the author had spelled 4 different character names several different ways (it was fantasy and the names weren't normal, so understandable) and one particular name he spelled 3 different ways. He was so embarrassed that he missed those. I told him not to worry, it was common, and that's what proofreaders are for. -Kasey

You'd think by now we'd all know that we all make mistakes and no one is an expert at everything.

But still, people like your author are embarrassed when they make mistakes, and agents are often embarrassed to tell me that while they can write everything else, they can't write their own bios.

It's silly.

Bios are hard to write Marte Cliff

Posted by Kasey & John Boles, Boise & Meridian, ID Ada/Canyon/Gem/Boise Counties (Jon Gosche Real Estate, LLC - BoiseMeridianRealEstate.com) 18 days ago

Kasey - they're hard to write about yourself, but writing a bio about someone else is fun - a bit like putting puzzle pieces together.
